Courses are tailored to individual needs. Small groups, usually no more than eight, ensure plenty of personal attention. Jamie gives tuition and demonstrations as required, often working alongside guests.

Beginners receive sensitive instruction in the basics of drawing and painting in the medium of their choice.  For the more experienced artist, Gascony Painting Holidays offers the space for a creative break where you can gain fresh insights and paint at your own pace in an inspiring and refreshing environment.

Most painting takes place out of doors. The local landscape is our main subject, with a wealth of painting sites to be found within a few minutes of Grand Barbe; still life and flower painting are alternative studies. Part of the course includes Jamie’s popular drawing workshops which he has evolved as a method of stimulating and developing observational drawing skills for artists of all abilities.

You will have daily opportunities for painting and tuition; Jamie takes a half day off once during the week when you can either work on a painting project or take the time to explore the area.  A large, north-lit studio provides a refuge from extreme heat where you can work at any time. Early mornings are particularly beautiful and by noon it is often very hot, so do bring a sun-hat!

Some materials, including paper, are available for sale at the studio. Jamie will be happy to discuss your painting requirements and suggest materials to bring with you (easels, stools, water containers and drawingboards are provided).
